Dining Table  Guide

The best dining table is one that fits beautifully into your space – whether it's a separate room or an open living area. The table will be a focal point, so choose a size that makes the most of both function and style.

STEP 1

choose a shape

Square

Same as round, good for smaller spaces. Promotes conversation since everyone is right next to and across from one another.

Rectangular

Most common shape. Since most rooms are rectangular, this is the natural choice. Can cause reaching and segmented conversations.

Oval

Same as rectangle with a twist. Usually provides plenty of seating. Can cause segmented conversations

Round

Great for smaller spaces. Works great for creating conversation since everyone is equidistant. Usually round tables are good for seating areas of 4-6 people.

STEP 2

know your needs

Buying a dining table is an exercise if finding balance between form and function. Think about how you use the dining table.
If you host the entire family for Thanksgiving, you'll want a table that expands with leaves. If quiet conversation fits your dining habits, choose a round table that allows everyone to see each other and converse easily.
