Bedroom floors feel cold in the winter mornings and can feel a bit uncomfortable. How about introducing an area rug that's large enough to give your feet a soft landing? A warm and cozy bedroom rug under the bed can work wonders to muffle sound while adding some color, texture, and pattern to your personal space. Take into consideration the following guidelines, to make sure your area rug is well-proportioned and complements your bedroom’s décor.
What Should Sit on an Area Rug?
Any bed can be placed on a square or rectangular area rug. But you might want to place nightstands and a bench by the foot of your bed on the rug too. There are some options to consider while placing an area rug under your bed:
- An entire bed frame on an area rug;
- Your bed, nightstands, and a bench at the foot of your bed, all placed together on a single area rug;
- Only the lower bed and the bench at the foot of your bed are placed on the rug, leaving the upper half of the bed and nightstands.
Area Rug Sizes for a Small Bedroom
For a small bedroom, large area rugs should be considered. Look for an area rug that can fill up the entire space. Make sure you leave some space between the rug and the walls.
Area Rug Sizes for a Large Bedroom
Placing a small rug in a king-size bedroom or an even larger bedroom will make the space off balance. If you do choose a large rug that fills up most of the room, make sure to leave about eight inches of space between the rugs and the walls.
Area Rugs under Dressers
No matter what the size of your bedroom or bed is, an area rug should never push up against the edge or legs of a dresser. When choosing the right size of the area rug, make sure it is large enough to fully slip underneath the entire dresser. Either way, you can choose an area rug that is small enough to leave about two inches or three inches of floor showing up between the edge of the rug and the piece of furniture.
Keeping Area Rug in Shape
A good idea is to place a non slip rug mat under the entire bedroom rug to keep the edges down. Try keeping the bedroom rug maintained so that it looks forever new. Also, make sure to turn your area rug now and then to remove the indentations with an ice cube treatment.
