Designer Wall Mirrors, From Accent Size to Oversized

Grayson Living carries more than 2,400 wall mirrors, from small accent mirrors to oversized statement pieces, along with full-length floor mirrors for a bedroom or dressing area. Brands include Uttermost, Arteriors, Global Views and John Richard, in styles that range from contemporary to traditional and refined glam.

How wide should a mirror be above a console, dresser or mantel?

Choose a mirror about two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the furniture below it. At that width the console table, dresser or mantel frames the mirror instead of the mirror overhanging its edges. Start from the width of your console table, dresser or mantel, and check the listing's exact width before you order.

How high should a mirror hang above a console table or dresser?

Hang the bottom edge of the mirror 6 to 10 inches above the surface below. That gap keeps the mirror and the furniture reading as one arrangement and still leaves room for a lamp or a vase.

How high should a mirror hang over a sofa?

Hang a mirror with its bottom edge 8 to 10 inches above the back of the sofa, so heads clear the frame when someone leans back. The width rule is the same as for other furniture: about two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the sofa.

How high should a mirror hang on a wall with nothing beneath it?

Center the mirror about 57 to 60 inches from the floor, the eye height galleries use for art. This applies to a mirror on an open wall, in a hallway or on a landing, where no furniture sets the height.

How tall should a full-length mirror be?

A full-length mirror should be 60 inches tall or more, which shows you head to toe from a comfortable distance. A full-length mirror of that height can hang on a bedroom wall or lean on the floor.

Which mirror shape works with the furniture below?

Match the mirror's shape to the lines of the furniture under it. A rectangular mirror hung vertically adds height over a narrow console or between two windows, and hung horizontally it spans a long sideboard or sofa. Round and oval mirrors break up straight lines, so they suit a boxy dresser or a rectilinear console. Arched mirrors add height with a softer line and suit a mantel or an entry. Starburst and other sculptural mirrors work as decoration first: the frame takes up much of their width, so they reflect far less light than a plain rectangle or round mirror of the same size. Choose a simple outline when you want a mirror to brighten the room.

How do you match a mirror frame to the metals and wood in a room?

Pick a frame finish that repeats a metal already in the room, such as lamp bases, cabinet hardware or a console's legs. Frame finishes in this collection include gold and brass, silver, black, white and wood tones from light to dark. A wood frame looks best when it either matches the wood beneath it or contrasts clearly with it, because a near match reads as a mistake. A slim frame puts the emphasis on the glass and suits a dark room or a narrow hall. A wide, ornate frame makes the frame the feature and can anchor a fireplace wall or an entry.

Can you hang a mirror in a bathroom?

Keep gilded, painted and natural wood frames to dry rooms, because bathroom steam lifts those finishes and works into the mirror's backing. For a bathroom, choose from our vanity mirrors instead.

How do you hang or lean a heavy mirror?

Hang a heavy mirror from wall studs or from anchors rated above the mirror's weight, and use two hanging points on wide mirrors so the mirror stays level. Check the individual listing for the weight and any included hardware, and match the anchors to it before ordering. Floor and oversized mirrors can also lean against the wall instead of hanging, which makes them easy to move. Secure a leaning mirror to the wall with an anti-tip strap or bracket, especially in a home with children or pets.

Will a large mirror fit through my door?

Measure every doorway, stairway, elevator and tight turn between the front door and the wall before you order, because a large framed mirror has to clear each one. The collection includes mirrors up to 118 inches wide and 96 inches tall, and the same hanging rules apply from a small round mirror above a nightstand to those largest pieces.

Delivery and showrooms

Grayson Living ships orders of $1,500 or more with free standard delivery (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). For large and heavy mirrors, white-glove delivery brings the mirror inside, up one flight of stairs if needed, places it, and removes the packaging. Each listing shows an estimated ship date before you order, and you can see mirrors in person at our showrooms in Santa Ana and Beverly Hills.
